Partial housing reform in Astigarraga, 90 m²
The main objective of this charming family is based on unifying spaces. Originally, this house has separate kitchen and living-dining room spaces.
Our objective is to design a distribution without barriers, that is, eliminating the partition walls to achieve:
Greater space: As there are no partitions, an open space is created that allows greater mobility and flexibility. We find this especially useful for a family with three little girls who need space to play and move around.
Increased light: As there are no walls separating the rooms, the natural light that enters from the terrace can penetrate all areas, which improves the natural lighting and makes the house feel more welcoming and pleasant.
Increased interaction: An open space can also encourage interaction between family members. With everyone in the same space, it’s easier to share activities and conversations without having to move from room to room.
Energy savings: By unifying the kitchen, dining room and living room in a single space, it is possible to reduce energy costs by not having to heat or cool several rooms separately, as well as the efficient use of lighting.
An island with counter space defines the kitchen area that opens to the dining room. The custom cabinets are made of recycled wood and offer a wide possibility of storage. With a new lighting design, we managed to enhance and accentuate each area. Each lamp has a specific relationship with the space it occupies both in materials and in shape and proportion.
With a partial intervention in this family home, we achieved an interior design of open spaces and a complete perspective with direct access to the terrace.
